La Flor Dominicana Digger Cigar Review
La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Digger Cigar Review
Before you decide and try to conquer this 60 ring gauge 8 1/2 inch long cigar, make sure that you have plenty of time. I tried one for the first time last week after having one delivered from one of my favorite non-local shops, Havana Dreamin’ (thanks Dennis) in Montgomery, Alabama. What an awesome treat.
Let me give you a little background on my cigar preferences. Let’s just say that hands down, the La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero line is my absolute favorite. To give you even more detail, still to this day the LFD Limitado II is my all time favorite cigar. My next favorite is the Double Ligero 700. Let me give a shout out to my favorite non-LFD cigar the Oliva Cain Maduro. So yes, I like them strong. When on a guys trip, I have been known to start the day before 7AM with a Double Ligero and a strong cup of coffee.
Rumor has it, the Digger is the same blend as the DL700 Maduro, just 2 inches longer. You would think that 2 inches on a cigar would not make a big difference, but it feels like it could be used as a weapon.
My experience was great. The cigar was not as strong as I was expecting it to be, but after 4 hours, I was done smoking for the day (well it was almost midnight). The cigar held up amazingly. It never went out and only required a couple of minimal touch ups with my zikar lighter.
If you are a person that enjoys the Double Ligero line, do yourself a favor and give the Digger a try. It was amazingly smooth and the flavor was consistent. Surprisingly, it held up well. It started getting a little soft 3 1/2 hours into it, but who could complain about that? It was every bit of 4 hours for me. I smoke at an average pace, where a robusto takes me about an hour and a DL700 (6.5 X 60) takes me about 2 hours.
My ONLY complaint would be that DL700 Maduro’s have been hard to come by in the past 18 months, supposedly due to a wrapper shortage. Now I can see why it would be the case because of the amount of wrapper that is necessary to for these huge cigars.
Rumor has it that the Digger is a limited edition cigar that was only distributed to 100 shops or so. If you plan on trying one, you may want to do so soon since they may be gone pretty quick.
Three and one half to 4 hours…sounds like a perfect cigar to smoke while watching your favorite football team on a Saturday or Sunday.
