EP Carrillo Edición Limitada 2010 Cigar Review
EP Carrillo Edición Limitada 2010
This line is another blend from EPC Cigars. Another blend by Ernesto Perez Carrillo, who is known for blending La Gloria Cubana and El Rico Habano. One of my favorite properties of Ernesto’s blends has been the peppery spiciness of many of his cigars. Ten plus years ago, I smoked many La Gloria Serie R’s and El Rico Habano’s because of that peppery flavor.
Wrapper: Brazilian Habano
Size: 6 X 54
First draw was a ton of peppery smoke with a hint of dark coffee. This will be an extremely tasty cigar if the flavor holds this initial taste. Rock solid construction with a perfect draw. Wrapper is light chocolate in color and is silky smooth.
One third through and the peppery flavor is less intense but still present (did I already tell you how I like peppery spice in cigars). Now getting a hint of cedar and now a bit more earthiness and less coffee. In fact the coffee seemed to only be there for the first minute or so. You cannot completely judge a cigar by the first third, but so far this is a very complex cigar.
Half way through and the spice continues and now getting a hint of sweetness. Strength is picking up, heading more toward the full strength spectrum. The pepper flavor is still strong, but not dominating.
This cigar is extremely rich. Maybe I have blasted my taste buds so much over the years smoking La Flor Dominicana Double Ligeros and Oliva Cains, but this is one of the richest and most complex cigars I can remember smoking in the past few years.
Having surpassed 20 years of smoking cigars, it is not often that I am blown away by a cigar. This one was close. I cannot find any faults. It finished strong. Started heavy medium and increased in strength to a smooth and complex full strength, full bodied cigar. Ernesto has another winner on his hand, and has already set the bar high for a 2011 Limitada (purely speculation that there will be one).
The EP Carrillo Edición Limitada 2010 is an absolute winner. This was a limited run, so you should pick some up before they are permanently gone. These are getting harder and harder to find from what I can tell. I was able to pick some up at Harbor Cigars in Destin, FL. Anytime you visit the Florida Gulf Coast, you must stop by Harbor cigars and say hello to Marvin and the crew. I have not been to a ton of retail shops, but I have seen a few, and no doubt Harbor is one of the top 5 shops I have ever visited.
If your favorite local retailer is not carrying EP Carrillo cigars, they (and you) are missing out. I have some local shops that are just not interested in picking up another line. There is a reason why La Gloria Cubana was so successful. Great cigars with outstanding quality. This is a limited edition, and a bit pricey, but the core line is in a perfect price range. You gotta let your local shop know that they need to pick these up. If they do not know Ernesto’s history with the blends he has created, then I question why they should be making cigar buying decisions.
